Home-visitingWhat happens during a home-visit?
Each home visit is set up to meet the need of the family. When I show up for a home visit with a bag full of toys, books, diapers and activities; I encourage the parents to sit down and play or do the planned activity with their children. Each activity is based around development and the childrens' milestones. Each visit, the parent take time to talk about their families' goals and needs. They are connect to the necessary resources available and discuss development and safety for the child. Parents receive diapers, books, and any thing else they need. How do you see the need for diapers affect the parent and child? Diapers can be very expensive and the cost of them is not covered by WIC or SNAP. For our families on limited budgets it can be difficult to purchase them and/or keep up with the need. This can lead to a child in a diaper for too long or families having to choose between paying a house bill or buying diapers. In our greatest needs families what role does hygiene security (diapers and wipes)for the baby play? Families that do not have help with obtaining diapers for their children tend to leave their children in diapers for longer periods. This can lead to diaper rash, sores, and is uncomfortable for the child. This can also cause the diapers to leak out onto car seats, couches, beds, and floors. |
Parent Perspective
Kimberly, mother of 4, East Garfield
"I receive 2-3 packs weekly, it helps a lot by me being a single mother of four and not really having the funds; you guys help a lot! When I would get the benefits from the state I would get diapers. That kept me from using (the small amount of money) for other needs." |
Stacy M., mother of 1
"I receive a sleeve of diapers usually every week. Home visiting helps me create better goals for my family and enables me to make the best choices for my child. The diapers I receive are a massive help and ensures that I don’t have to choose between diapers or gas in my car. Before AHIA I would have to make sacrifices on how much food or gas I could get in order to have enough diapers for my child." |
